Coalition Of Political Parties Collapse Into Ohakim 2011



The coalition of Political Parties led by Chief Perry Opara has collapsed their party’s machinery into Ohakim campaign for 2011.


Speaking at the Dan Anyiam stadium during the formal declaration of Chief Ikedi Ohakim for a second term, Chief Perry Oparah of the National Unity Party stated that all the parties in the coalition, the Action Congress of Nigeria, Justice Party. MDJ and others have decided to subsume their campaign organisation into the realisation of the Ikedi Ohakim 2011. Added to this, he declared that as far as the coalition was concerned there is no vacancy in Douglas House and no candidate from any of these parties will be fielded in the governorship slot.


Earlier in a remark the Director-General of Ohakim campaign organisation, Chief Raph Obioha expressed the appreciation of the organisation at the success of the declaration. He stressed that Chief Ikedi Ohakim deserved another tenure given the sustainable development he has instituted in the state. Chief Obioha agreed that more would be done to give Imo the desired facelift. Representatives of other interest groups including big time PDP stalwarts in the state, Chief [Mrs.] Kema Chikwe, Nigeria Ambassador to Ireland noted that the governor was a man of courage, divinely chosen and gender friendly and enjoined Imo citizens to support him.


Contributing, Chief Hope Uzodinma, a PDP BoT member used the opportunity to invite those he described as being on holiday to come back to the fold. Oha Boniface Anukam who was representing the Owerri Community recounted the beautify face of the capital city as renovated by Chief Ohakim and prayed for his success in 2011. Leaders of Tricycle Operators and Car Dealers in the state threw their weight behind the governor. According to them, while it was true that Okada was banned and car sellers relocated, their living standard has greatly improved.

In her own contribution, Lady Regina Nduka of the Knight of St Mulumba itemised the governor’s commitment towards accommodating women in his administration and solicited for more chances for womenfolk to prove their mettle. For the youth under the Student’s Union Government, their President from AIFCE, Mr Chibueze Chijindu stated the resolve of the union to give their total support for the re-election bid.


Adding her voice, the ALGON chairman in the state, Chief Mrs. Rubby Emele reiterated the readiness of the 27 LGs in the state to totally support Ohakim 2011 campaign. She listed good network of roads, youth employment, and federal projects amongst others as deserving a return ticket.


The Imo House of Assembly was not left out in the support as the speaker; Rt Hon. Goodluck Opiah restated the total support of the legislature to the Ohakim 2011 project. He said that while they have been the watchdogs of democracy between the different arms of government, they have maintained cordial relations with the executive. According to him, this has ensured stability and peace in the polity and maintained, it will continue to be so.

In his submission, a member of the House representing Njaba state constituency, Hon Joe Emenaha emphasised the need for the governor to finish the 8 years tenure. He explained that the opportunity will enable him consolidate on his achievements. Hon Emenaha described Chief Ohakim as a man of destiny and called on all Imolites to give him the chance. Others that spoke include the Elders Council, the Civil Service Commission Chairman, Chief Robert Asusu on the success of the 10,000 jobs for the youths programme, Members of the National Assembly, Engr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, BoT member.
