In
a release made available to The Verite, signed
by Hon. Nimi Walson Jack, Commissioner in-Charge
of Public Affairs and Civil Education, stated
that the notice of elections becomes necessary
following the dissolution of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni
local government council (ONELGA) and the death
of the councilor for ward 6, in Abua/Odual local
government council (ABOLGA) and in accordance
with section 65 of the Rivers State local
government law No. 3 of 1999 as amended.
According to Hon.
Walson, political parties interested in
contesting the election for the chairmanship and
counillorship positions are hereby required to
forward an expression of interest letters to the
Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (REIEC)
ON OR BEFORE 4.00pm on Monday 8th
February 2010.
He also stated that
political parties must indicate the venue for
their primaries and local government area
Headquarter for chairmanship and in the wards
for the councillorship position before 11.00am
on Saturday 13th February 2010.
The Commissioner
also reminded all political parties that in
accordance with extant Rivers State Independent
Electoral Commission law 2007, candidate
eligible to be presented for the elections are
only those selected or nominated by their
political parties in accordance with their
respective party constitutions and primaries
monitored and supervised by (RSIEC).
